Anti-Dog Laws

The American Rottweiler Club, a 501 (c) 3 organization, tracks and responds to anti-dog laws across the United States.

Anti- dog laws are laws which discriminate against dogs and dog owners, and negatively impact the right to own, show, breed dogs, or live in the community with dogs.

Many times anti-dog laws have deceptive names, such as “anti-tethering” laws or even “Puppy Mill” laws.  Certainly every dog owner would wish to see dogs treated humanely and that substandard breeders and kennels must be addressed.

However, it is clear that these deceptively-named laws contain provisions or clauses that target even the most resposnble breeders and owners, and more often than not existing laws are not enforced.

Anti-dog laws include, but are not limited to:

  • Breed Specific Legislation
  • Limit Laws
  • Mandatory Spay Neuter
  • Anti-Tethering/Anti-Chaining Laws
